Director of Membership and Sales

Position Summary:

The Ohio Hotel & Lodging Association (OHLA), having just completed its 130th year of operation, offers a rare opportunity to lead membership development efforts for one of Ohio’s major industry organizations. Primary roles are developing, managing and executing our membership functions, including prospecting, recruitment, sales and retention. OHLA provides advocacy, information, resources, programs and education for operators and professionals in every type of lodging business across the state


  • Promoting and selling association membership to different classes of business prospects
  • Implementation of an effective retention strategy
  • Selling and management of affiliate industry partner sponsorships
  • Development and refinement of prospect lists
  • Collaboration on programs, benefits and events that support members
  • Management of volunteer committees
  • Networking with industry partners, and peers in other hospitality associations
  • Providing input and content for association communications
  • Enhance methods of utilizing association management system for maximum benefit


  • Hotel industry or professional association experience highly preferred.
  • Four-year degree or equivalent, with focus in disciplines related to duties of this position.
  • Also helpful are knowledge of association management systems and databases
  • Sales experience within hotels or trade associations or similar environment with directly transferable skills
  • Customer service background or training
  • Event experience
  • Business writing skills
  • Follow-through and attention to detail
