OSBA Launches Civics Site

It's geared towards educating students and young adults

The Ohio State Bar Association, in partnership with the Ohio State Bar Foundation William K. Weisenberg Fund for Civics Education and the Akron Bar Foundation, has launched MyOhioRights.com — a civics initiative, website and social media campaign geared toward educating students and young adults on their rights and responsibilities as Ohio citizens, starting with what to expect during police and courtroom interactions and how to change the law.

At MyOhioRights.com, Ohioans will find resources for students, parents and educators, including short videos and quick informational summaries from bar association member attorneys and judges. Current topics include police stops, recording police interactions, how to change the law and the importance of getting involved.

The site also features an “Ask the Professionals” video library, where Judges Kari Bloom and Michael Ryan discuss key rights, including the presumption of innocence and right to remain silent, the operation of the justice system, when juveniles can be tried as adults and what happens in an arrest.
