COVID-19 Update: 12,108 Newly Confirmed Cases Today

Today, the Ohio Department of Health (ODH) reported 12,108 new COVID-19 cases and 446 new hospitalizations. The agency did not report any additional deaths.

The ODH said yesterday's numbers were artificially inflated due to a backlog of positive COVID-19 test results. According to ODH, testing data from across the state is automatically sent through a system that feeds into the Ohio Disease Reporting System. The agency said it received five incorrectly formatted files from a long-term care facility with each containing both valid and invalid data. This data caused a backlog in the system and delayed the processing of other facilities' confirmed cases.

ODH also reported 2,552,972 confirmed cases, 32,489 deaths and 106,616 hospitalizations. The agency also reported 2,173,032 presumed recoveries and indicated approximately 7,155,177 Ohioans have received at least one dose of the vaccine. This figure represents 61 percent of Ohioans - a low figure compared to numbers nationwide.
