U.S. Senate to Vote on Military Burn Pits Bill Tuesday

Its delay prompted a lobbying campaign from veterans advocates

The U.S. Senate will vote today on a bill to expand healthcare to veterans exposed to toxic burn pits while serving abroad, Democratic Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer said.

Legislation giving veterans exposed to toxic burn pits access to expanded health benefits is on course for passage as early as this evening. This comes following a days-long protest at the Capitol after Republicans blocked the bill.

The delay prompted a lobbying campaign from veterans advocates, including comedian Jon Stewart, who have camped out on the Capitol steps through the weekend and into this week.
