USDA Approves $1.5 Billion for Food Banks

The funding will help feed Americans who are struggling to make ends meet

Nearly $1.5 billion in funding for emergency food purchases will be provided by the U.S. Department of Agriculture in 2023, helping to feed Americans who are struggling to make ends meet.

About $50 million is expected to come to Ohio, where food banks have seen record-breaking demand since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We’re trying to feed more people with less food," said Julie Chase-Morefield, president and CEO of Second Harvest Food Bank of North Central Ohio. "That equation just doesn’t work out.”
