Ohio Lags in Nursing Home Vaccines

Among the 50 states, only eight rank lower than Ohio

Ohio ranks close to the bottom nationally in persuading nursing home employees and other long-term care workers to get vaccinated against COVID-19.

A chart at data.cms.gov, a website maintained by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, shows 51.2 percent of long-term care workers in Ohio have been vaccinated.

That puts Ohio much closer to the worst state (Louisiana, 44.9 percent) than the best state (Hawaii, 95.94 percent). Among the 50 states, only eight rank lower than Ohio — all of them in the southern U.S.: Georgia, Mississippi, Kentucky, Tennessee, Oklahoma, Missouri, Florida and Louisiana.
