Across the Org Chart, Burnout Looks Different
Workplace burnout is often discussed as if it were a single condition with a single solution: fewer hours, better boundaries, more resilience. That framing is incomplete and misleading.
Burnout takes different forms depending on where someone sits in the organization, for what they're accountable and how much clarity, control and moral alignment they have.
Over my two decades as a chief people officer and advisor to corporations and nonprofit organizations, as well as the author of Burnt Out to Lit Up, I’ve seen this pattern repeatedly, particularly during periods of rapid growth, crisis or transformation. And burnout looks different for everyone.
