As Most Say AI Needs More Intelligence, This Founder Disagrees

Rana Gujral has spent his career thinking about the relationship between humans and machines. He led Behavioral Signals, an artificial intelligence (AI) company that detects emotion and intent in the human voice, and before that he spent years as an operator across software and consumer hardware. His book, The AI Instinct, is out from Wiley in August.

The argument: Machines need more than intelligence. They need experience and consequence.

"Competence without a relationship to consequence is exactly what worries me," he said. "Because we’re now embedding those systems inside human decisions where the consequences are real."
