Athens County JFS Director Indicted in Alleged $1 Million Case Involving Misused Public Funds
Athens County Job and Family Services (JFS) is now under new leadership after the agency's most recent director was indicted on eight charges that range from fraud to intimidation.
According to a grand jury indictment, Jean Demosky is accused of creating a nonprofit called the Athens County Department Of Job and Family Services Community Cares Fund. That court record says that she asked county employees to work for the nonprofit and spend public dollars on it.
In a written statement on April 3, the Athens County Prosecutor's Office said in part, "... The expense of county staffing doing the work for the nonprofit is in excess of $1,000,000."
