Canada Issues Retaliatory Tariffs of up to 50 Percent on U.S. Imports

News,

Canada announced new tariffs of up to 50 percent on hundreds of American goods Tuesday in retaliation for U.S. tariffs that went into effect after negotiations collapsed last week.

Beginning Sept. 8, Canada will double its tariffs on American steel and aluminum from 25 percent to 50 percent.

That measure will be paired with tariffs ranging from 15 percent to 50 percent on around 700 other products ranging from milk and other food products to plywood, paper, aluminum foil and railway construction materials. Canada also announced tariffs on appliances, agricultural equipment, plastics and electronics.
