Denaturalization of Citizens Climbs under Current Administration
The Department of Justice (DOJ) on Monday said it is moving to strip 17 naturalized individuals of their citizenship after they were convicted of crimes ranging from sex offenses to drug-dealing.
The Trump administration has filed paperwork with courts to denaturalize citizens more frequently than in years past and has repeatedly warned that those who are naturalized and commit crimes could be subject to the process.
Since the beginning of President Donald Trump's second term in office, his administration has filed 52 civil complaints against naturalized citizens who committed crimes compared to 24 civil complaints during the four years of the preceding Biden administration, according to the DOJ.
