For the country’s 250th birthday, give yourself the gift of the all-American road trip.
In anticipation of the year-long fete, the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) launched the Great American Road Trip initiative last May. The campaign spotlights timeless routes, historic landmarks, scenic settings and weird roadside attractions, such as a giant duck house on New York’s Long Island.
Though high fuel costs have squeezed many travelers’ budgets, gas rates are creeping downward. As of June 26, national gas prices are averaging $3.90 a gallon, nearly 60 cents cheaper than a month ago during the U.S./Israel war with Iran, according to AAA.
