Experts Recommend Three Science-backed Remedies for Low Back Pain
At some point in our lives, back pain comes for most of us. Chronic low back pain — defined as lasting more than 12 weeks — is a leading cause of disability worldwide. It can be caused by arthritis, a herniated disc, conditions such as spinal stenosis, which is a narrowing inside the backbone that squeezes the spinal cord, or in the vast majority of cases, for no identifiable reason at all.
When it comes to low back pain, the American College of Physicians’ guidelines favor treatments such as acupuncture, exercise programs or cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) over medications, when possible.
But it can be tough to find a treatment that works, and require a bit of trial and error. Remedies that work for one person may not help relieve pain for another, even if they share a specific underlying cause of their pain.
