Former Ohio Lawmaker Ray Miller Dies at Age 77
Former Ohio state lawmaker and businessman Ray Miller has died at age 77, his family confirmed to WBNS-10TV.
Miller spent significant time working for the Ohio legislature, serving in the House of Representatives for 16 years and in the Senate for eight years. He became the 13th African American elected to the Ohio Senate and served as Senate minority leader in 2008.
Miller became known for his work on health care, mental health, human services and education legislation. He helped create what is now the Ohio Department of Behavioral Health and was instrumental in establishing the Ohio Commission on Minority Health. He also pushed for Ohio to dedicate a portion of the state's tobacco settlement funds to minority health initiatives.
