France Warns of 'Vicious Circle' of Retaliation in U.S./Israel/Iran War

France has called for restraint in the U.S. and Israel's war with Iran, warning of a "vicious circle" of retaliation if Washington moves ahead with threats to target civilian and energy infrastructure in the Islamic Republic.

Speaking on France Info Television, French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot called for restraint as he warned that targeting civilian infrastructure is "barred by the rules of war, international law" after President Donald Trump threatened not only to attack Iran's energy sites, but to bomb the entire country.

"They would without doubt trigger a new phase of escalation, of reprisals, that would drag the region and the world economy into a vicious circle that would be very worrying and, most of all, very damaging to our own interests," Barrot said, according to The Associated Press.
