Historic “Shawshank Prison” Offers Discounts to Road Trippers Visiting Mansfield Reformatory

As gas prices have travelers across the US grimacing as they fill up for summer travel, one Ohio destination is helping take the sting out of what they pay at the pump. Mansfield Ohio’s historic Ohio State Reformatory, best known for starring as Shawshank Prison in the eponymous movie that’s been a classic favorite for more than 30 years, is cutting prices for guests who travel from 50 or more miles away. For those who drive more than 100 miles, the discount is even deeper.

Now through Labor Day, anyone who drives 50 or miles to tour the prison receives 5 percent off any tour or escape room by using the code 50Miler. Those who travel 100 miles or more to experience the prison enjoy 10 percent off tours and escape rooms using the code "100Miler." Discounts apply on self-guided tours and the following guided tours, including the Hollywood Meets History tour, The Walls of Time tour, the Beyond The Bars tour and an Old Sparky tour that walks guests through Ohio's history of capital punishment.

The 4.5-hour guided Shawshank Bus Tour is also included in the discounts and features a motorcoach tour of 10 filming sites from “The Shawshank Redemption,” which was entirely filmed (except the closing beach scene) in and around Mansfield. The bus tour ends with a guided tour of “Shawshank Prison.”
