Nuclear Energy Partnership in Southern Ohio Promises Jobs, Lower Energy Bills
Last month, congressmen and CEOs gathered in southern Ohio to announce a nuclear partnership they say will bring jobs and lower energy costs to Ohio.
Nuclear company Oklo announced a multi-billion-dollar partnership with Centrus Energy to bring nuclear power to southern Ohio. Oklo CEO and co-founder Jacob DeWitte said the project will reduce energy costs for Ohioans and bring more than 2,000 jobs.
Nuclear energy is made by turning enriched uranium into power. The agreement details that Centrus will provide domestic high-assay low-enriched uranium (HALEU) for Oklo, which will, in turn, generate nuclear power as soon as 2029. Oklo will generate the nuclear energy at its planned 1.2-gigawatt power plant in the region.
