Ohio Pharmacists Association Awarded Grant from Federal Government
Greene County is among the counties set to benefit from a total of $2 million in funding via a Rural Health Transformation Pharmacy Initiative grant awarded to the Ohio Pharmacists Association (OPA), per an announcement. The federally supported effort is designed to strengthen healthcare delivery in rural areas and the grant will connect a network of independent pharmacies, retail pharmacies, federally qualified health centers and outpatient hospital pharmacies across 73 counties to a health information exchange.
"Rural pharmacies already serve as trusted healthcare access points in their communities," said OPA Director of Pharmacy Extension and Public Health Initiatives Myriam Shaw Ojeda, RPh, PharmD, MPH. "Through this initiative, OPA has an opportunity to learn directly from our members and help build the support needed for pharmacists to provide more connected care across rural Ohio."
The exchange would improve access to patient medical records by letting pharmacists to enhance patient access to quality healthcare coordination to effectively manage medication and reduce drug-related adverse events.
