Eating a nutritious diet is important at any age. But as you get older, there are certain nutrients that you need to prioritize.

That's because your nutrition needs change throughout your life. It’s obvious, for example, that a six-month-old has different nutritional needs than a six-year-old. But it’s also the case that your nutrition needs at 65 are not the same as when you were 35.

As you approach your 60s, your body becomes less able to absorb certain vitamins, minerals and macro-nutrients. You need more calcium and vitamin D to prevent bone loss and hip fractures, and you need to ensure that you are eating enough protein and calories to blunt the gradual loss of muscle and strength that occurs with aging, known as sarcopenia.
