Six Destinations for a Cheaper Summer Vacation

Booking a summer vacation is a lot like planting a tree: The best time to do it was ages ago. The second-best time is now — with apologies to your wallet.

Katy Nastro, a travel expert with the flight deal website Going, said the company compared domestic airfare for this summer with last, "and, no surprise: Fares are up," she said by email. International airfare is running higher, too.

The war in Iran is causing oil prices to surge, leaving airlines with some of the highest fuel costs in years. That has meant higher ticket prices for travelers, particularly those booking anytime soon.
