State Democrats Unveil 'An Ohio You Can Afford' Legislative Package

Ohio House Democrats on Tuesday unveiled a package of bills they say will ease the burden of rising housing, child care and energy costs on working families.

At a statehouse news conference, several House Democrats took turns at the podium to outline what they are calling "An Ohio You Can Afford" legislative package, which focuses on five key areas: healthcare, child care, energy, housing and consumer protection. Democrats say Ohioans are working hard but cannot get ahead.

"They go to work every day," said state Rep. Beryl Brown Piccolantonio, D-Gahanna. "Some of them raise kids, often while taking care of aging parents and they try to save up for the hard times, but then they open an electric bill or pick up a prescription. And the dollars that were meant to go to the savings account are gone in an instant."
