This Lakefront Ohio Town Feels Like It Belongs in Europe

One such place is Vermilion, located 35 miles west of Cleveland on Lake Erie. This quaint town is centered around the Vermilion River, and its maritime culture, along with stunning Queen Anne, Italianate, Arts and Crafts and Victorian architecture, make it reminiscent of a coastal European village.
Vermilion's motto is, "A Small Town on a Great Lake." I love that slogan because it captures the town's essence perfectly: a close-knit waterfront community of 10,000 that feels frozen in time, far removed from the fast-paced lifestyle of the modern world.
