Where a Powerful Nor’easter Could Hit Hardest This Weekend

This weekend is shaping up to be a stormy one for millions of people living in the Northeast.

The forecast is trending toward a powerful, slow-moving and rare September nor’easter that tracks closer to the coast. Because the storm will coincide with higher-than-normal tides, concerns about dangerous coastal flooding and beach erosion are rising.

Which areas see the worst impacts, however, depends on the storm's exact track, which is still uncertain. Depending on its path, the worst conditions could affect areas between New York and Boston. Just offshore, tropical-storm-force wind gusts of 50 to 70 mph are forecast to push water toward the coast, while large waves of 10 to 15 feet crash into the shoreline from the Carolinas to Maine.
