Columbus Zoo Announces Development of New Aquarium

News,

Representatives with the Columbus Zoo unveiled plans on June 19 for a new aquarium to be constructed at the Delaware County site. The new facility is being touted as the largest of its kind in Ohio with more than 100,000 square feet of new space.

The new space will officially be known as the "John F. Wolfe Aquarium," following a $50 million donation made by the The Robert F. Wolfe and Edgar T. Wolfe Foundation. The Wolfe Family were longtime owners of The Columbus Dispatch until they sold it in 2015. John Wolfe passed away in 2016.

"This is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to transform how people connect with wildlife and conservation," said Tom Schmid, the president and CEO of the Columbus Zoo. "The John F. Wolfe Aquarium will immerse guests in some of the world's most extraordinary marine and freshwater environments while inspiring action to protect them. It will strengthen our conservation impact, elevate the guest experience and create a lasting legacy for future generations.”
