DOJ Launches Title VI Investigation into Ohio State College of Medicine's Admissions Policy
The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) launched an investigation into The Ohio State University College of Medicine with a focus on “possible race discrimination” in the admissions process.
In a letter obtained by 10TV and addressed to Senior Assistant Vice President Amy Nash Golian in the Office of Legal Affairs, the DOJ will determine whether the college is violating Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which prohibits discrimination based on race, color and national origin regarding federal financial assistance.
Depending on the conclusion, the DOJ will either close the investigation, help the college to be compliant by "informal voluntary means" or suspend or terminate federal financial assistance, as well as take civil action, according to the letter.
