Evacuation Order Lifted after Norfolk Southern Train Derailment in Bucyrus

A derailment involving a Norfolk Southern train prompted an evacuation order in Crawford County on Sunday night, according to police.

The derailment happened around 8:45 p.m. at Whetstone Street and Auto Avenue in Bucyrus. The Bucyrus Fire Department was dispatched to the scene and saw several overturned rail cars, including one that contained hydrochloric acid.

According to a social media post by the Bucyrus Police Department Sunday night, residents within 1 mile of the derailment were requested to evacuate the area. Police added that the tanker car containing hydrochloric acid may have been leaking, with the possibility of it exploding.
