Here’s How Workplace Activity May Affect Dementia Risk
Exercise is one of the healthiest things we can do for ourselves and our brains. Most science shows that even a few minutes a day of physical activity generally contribute to lower risks for dementia as we age.
But the context may matter. A study published online this week found that physically demanding jobs, with long hours spent lifting, standing, hammering, walking or doing other manual labor, may be linked to a risk for dementia, including Alzheimer's disease.
In the study, the more manual labor workers did most days, the greater their risks for eventual memory problems.
