Richland County Looks to its Roots In New Farmland Preservation Effort
Richland County’s long-standing agricultural heritage may soon take center stage in a new countywide planning initiative aimed at protecting the farmland that has defined the region for more than two centuries.
The Richland County Regional Planning Commission is preparing to apply for an Ohio Department of Agriculture (ODA) grant to conduct a comprehensive land use study focused on farmland preservation.
The effort reflects the county’s deep agricultural roots, dating back to its settlement in the early 1800s and even its name, Richland, inspired by the fertile soil that attracted early farmers and continues to sustain the local economy today.
