The player quit in June, but he had actually left in February.
He never said a word. Never missed a practice. Never caused a problem. He was the last guy on the bench, the one who did everything I asked and nothing I noticed. At the end of the season, he turned in his jersey, shook my hand and walked away from a team he had wanted to make since middle school.
