When Doubting Team Members, Be Honest with Them
Team members who feel as if their leader or coach does not believe in their skills and talents interpret feedback very differently from how it's intended.
When leaders express or leak that they have little confidence in a team member's ability to perform effectively and offer criticism or negative feedback, that person often interprets it as confirmation of their own inadequacy and failings..
The team member fails to hear: "This is the way to get better." Instead, they hear: "This is more evidence you don't belong."
