Benefits include more than just health insurance. The laundry list can also include retirement savings, incentive programs, paid time off, flexible work locations or hours, charitable matching, wellness options, free on-site food, transportation subsidies, education reimbursement, paid parental leave and more.

While costly, benefits are not always used. This means that employers—large and small—should be assessing benefits on a regular basis to determine which ones aren't highly used (and why) and which ones employees would value more.
